Rooftop Greenhouse

One of the best ways to make use of a roof is with a rooftop greenhouse. Roofs cover a lot of surface space that often goes overlooked and unused. While an angled roof might be better suited for solar panels than a greenhouse, flat roofs can easily support a greenhouse, some roofs can be entirely converted to a greenhouse adding another interior level to the building.

There are a few things that have to be taken into account before building a rooftop greenhouse. The roof has to be designed to take the extra amount of weight and wear and tear from constant heat and humidity. While most roofs drain water very well, some materials are not very well adapted to constant moisture and could degrade prematurely potentially causing roof damage.

Before building a rooftop greenhouse consult with a contractor to make sure that the roof can support the extra weight, heat and humidity. Stable stairs will also have to be constructed to access the rooftop which can become quite a project. Once built they are one of the best ways to use a roof and can be enjoyed by all.
