Greenhouse Irrigation

Plants need water. In a greenhouse, it’s up to the gardener to provide this life force. Small greenhouses can sometimes get away with the use of a basic garden hose, but for best results plants need to have regulated watering, an irrigation system is the best way to achieve this.

There are several options for greenhouse irrigation. Advanced systems include overhead sprinklers and misters. Sub-irrigation systems, which basically mean self-watering, can be purchased for a price. With a little diligence a regular water system can do the trick just fine.

Misters are ideal for tropical plants. Drip or trickle systems work great for most plants. The water gets delivered to the roots of each individual plant and can be controlled. Drip systems conserve water as well. Capillary mats water plants from the bottom using a tray of water under the plants.

Setting up the irrigation system properly will determine the success of the greenhouse, so it is crucial that it works efficiently.
