A vent promotes a healthy exchange of air in the greenhouse. Good circulation is the key to humidity control. Improper ventilation will create excess humidity and heat. Adequate ventilation also maintains the proper balance of oxygen and carbon dioxide.
Without a vent or two in the greenhouse excess humidity can accumulate causing mold, mildew, and fungus to grow on plants. In dry climates excess heat can cause plants to wilt and dry out. Air flow keeps plants vibrant and also protects the gardener’s health as well.
For best results a roof vent and a vent close to the floor on one of the sides will provide the most control. Vents must be opened and closed daily as needed to keep temperature in check. An open vent on a cold night may invite frost. Also installing a fine mesh screen over the vents will keep pests out.
