Greenhouse Heating Systems

Greenhouse heating systems can be as simple or complicated as your budget and environment allow. Coal, electric, gas and oil are the main ways you can fuel heaters for your greenhouse. The size and insulation level of your environment will dictate the needed heating capacity, not to mention the needs of your plants.

Online retailers of greenhouse heating systems offer calculators to help growers figure out the heating that is right for each unique case. The area of your structure, minimum outside temperature of your location, the inside temperature you’d like to maintain, the heat loss value for your greenhouse covering and the minimum BTUs needed are all elements used y these calculators.

Greenhouse heating systems can also be as small as an electric space heater, radiant heat lamps, or under-soil cables. Forced-air heaters and hot water or steam heaters can also be incorporated. If you choose a gas, oil or coal heater, you will need a fresh air supply to avoid the carbon monoxide buildup that results from restricted oxygen supply. Fans to improve circulation are also needed in this scenario.
